Philemon Koech graduated from the University of Nairobi with Bachelor of Laws, 2nd Class Honours degree in 1993 and subsequently attained a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law in 1995. He has over 20 years experience in practice.
Mr. Koech, a member of the international Criminal Court (ICC) bar Association is a Senior Partner in charge of Litigation & Commercial Law with a bias for investment Law. Over the years, he has participated in the negotiation and preparation of Joint Venture agreements between Foreign Investors and Kenyan entrepreneurs in the real estate sector. He also attended highly intensive and interactive courses on drafting contracts and Negotiations.
In addition, he has participated in the negotiation and settlement of an investment contract between a foreign investor and the Government of Central Equatorial in Southern Sudan. Also, he has overseen the implementation and
completion of joint venture agreements, ensuring amicable settlement of any disputes arising.
Mr. Koech is a seasoned Litigator, having gained experience in Criminal practice and procedure as well as Civil and Commercial Litigation. Mr. Koech has vast Civil and Criminal Litigation experience and has had the opportunity to participate in cases leading to setting of precedents in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. He handles Commercial, Litigation, Banking and insurance Law, Corporate Law, Labour Law, Probate and Administration matters and has also represented clients in various Arbitral Tribunals. He has participated as a consultant in the review and re-drafting of a statute governing a public corporation.
He served his pupillage with the firm of Birech and Company Advocates in Eldoret and thereafter joined the then firm of
Mitei & Company Advocates. In 1997, he teamed up with Mr. Paul Lilan to form the Firm of Lilan, Koech & Company Advocates where he was the Partner in Charge of Finance.Mr. Koech gained experience in Claims settlement in personal injury claims including litigation in various courts and various facets of insurance laws, Commercial Arbitration and Banking law.
The Firm was later on, in the year 2000, dissolved to form the Firm of Kipkenda, Lilan & Company Advocates. In the year
2011, the Firm was dissolved to pave way for the current firm of Lilan & Koech Associates.
